Call for Impact – funding of research-based impact projects for early career researchers
Impact includes effects at the level of society, also known as indirect impact or societal impact. A long-term effect and benefit can be observed in society, which leads to changes in society. The aim is to develop an impact at the level of society in order to shape a better future together.
(Transfer strategy of the TU Braunschweig)
Do you like to think outside the box? Have you already thought about what impact your research could have on society? Do you think that science is relevant for people outside the campus? Transformation researcher Maja Göpel believes that science is an organised form of searching for answers to social questions. We at the Transfer Service see it that way too. That's why it's important to involve the public by communicating knowledge to specific target groups and creating opportunities for people, communities and practice partners to get involved in TU Braunschweig's research.
After all, young researchers need spaces in which they can develop explorative impact projects. This is the focus of this call: As a PhD or postdoctoral researcher, you will be given the opportunity to plan and implement your own impact projects with social groups and organisations in a multidirectional and co-creative way. This can enrich your own research with new ideas and perspectives. The funding for individual impact projects is aimed at young TU researchers (PhD / postdoc), and participation in the GradTUBS training programme "Knowledge Transfer with Impact" is an advantage.
Funding criteria:
- Ongoing research project at an institute of the TU Braunschweig
- Relation of the impact project to the doctoral project or research-related reason
- Relation of the impact project to at least two of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (17 SDGs)
- Cooperation with or participation of at least one non-university target group (e.g. schools) or a non-university community (e.g. associations) as well as practice partners (e.g. regional start-ups and companies)
- Participation in initial, interim and final meeting
- At the end of the project: Poster and/or short other type of presentation during Impact Week from 13 July to 18 July 2026 (period subject to change)
Funding:
- Funding is provided for up to three projects (usually material resources) of €1,000 each within the six-month project period from 1 February to 31 July 2026
- An impact project certificate will be issued to the project leader or team upon completion of funding
Note: Costs for catering and for student employees cannot be covered.
Support from the Transfer service:
- Personal coaching of PhD Impact projects by a member of the Knowledge Transfer team (initial, interim and final meeting, monthly exchange meeting, further coaching appointments as required)
- Networking and cooperation management with non-university objectives and practice partners
